Captain Edgar Rule married Muriel Tuck, daughter of Annie and Harry Tuck, a stock and station agent at Cobram, Victoria in 1919.

In 1933, E.J. Rule published ‘Jacka’s Mob’, a book based on his diary of experiences in the 14th Battalion AIF. ‘Jacka’s Mob’ was republished with annotations and a roll of 14th Battalion members in 1999 by Military Melbourne.
